I have decided that my topic for this blog will be writing and technology, with a focus on how computers can be used within the classroom. I chose this topic because I am not much of a technology whiz. I think my technology phobia is probably something that I inherited from my father’s side of the family. My grandparents do not know how to use a computer. It took my father over a year to master the use of the television remote. I may not be quite so bad as them, but I definitely have a less than loving relationship with technology. In fact, it has often been my general opinion that technology hates me. I therefore have pretty much determined that there will probably be a minimal use of technology in my classroom when I become a teacher. However, I am prepared to change my mind on that point. Hence, my choice of a topic. There are lots of things that I could learn about technology, and I might discover that there is technology out there that I would like to use in the classroom.
I will be getting my information from the RSS feeds that I have compiled on Google Reader. My feeds are the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, BBC News, and the blog “Digital Writing, Digital Teaching”. I chose these feeds because I think that the education sections of the New York Times and the Washington Post are good sources of information for my topic. I chose CNN and BBC News because I thought that they would be more likely to give information concerning the use of technology outside of the U.S. I chose the blog “Digital Writing, Digital Teaching” by Troy Hicks because it has a lot of useful information about my topic. I also am getting information from a Google News search on new writing technologies in education, which may or may not produce some useful results. Hopefully, all of these sources of will help me find information that will be interesting to blog about. I hope that you will find my blog to be informative!
